Furtei area has been inhabited since prehistoric times, as evidenced by numerous sites.
The Nuragic finds are particularly noteworthy. The best-known are Bruncu de Didus nuraghe complex, located on a small volcanic hill, Cummossariu nuraghe and Santu Brai nuraghe with its adjoining village.
In the 1950s, two small bronze objects were discovered by chance in the courtyard of Cummossariu nuraghe: they are now on display on the first floor of the Archaeological Museum. One is a small bronze statue of a praying man, which, while based on formal designs known from other small bronzes, features an unusual depiction of both arms raised frontally in a gesture of prayer. The second find is a fragment of a bronze vessel, which formed the column with a suspension ring. The top of the column is shaped like a model of a quadrilobed nuraghe.
In Furtei area, the remains of a Roman thermal bath complex, known as Is Bangius, were also brought to light in the 1980s.
