Siamanna

The first settlement in the territory of Siamanna, a town in the Oristano area, was probably founded during the Roman period, along the road that connected Fordongianus (Forum Traiani) with Usellus (the ancient Colonia Iulia), still called “sa ia de is Romanaius”. The toponym Siamanna would originate from combining the terms “sa ia” o “s’ia” (the road), referring to the Roman road that lined the ancient village, and “manna” (large), referring to its size.
Neverthless, the Nuragics, a long time before, were the first to settle on the area of Siamanna; evidence of these settlements are the many nuraghi; between these one of the most important is called “Santu Anni”, or Saint John, ad is a single tower nuraghe realized with basalt blocks, located near the homonymous rural church.
Others nuraghi located on the area are the Auredda, Concu, Crogana, Curreli, Monte Qua Sigu, Paba de Solo, Pajolu, Pitzu Can and Santa Vittoria; they create a kind of belt around the village.
