Suelli, a small village in southern Sardinia, in the province of Sud Sardegna, belonging to the historical region of Trexenta, includes important archaeological remains in its territory since the Prehistory.
In fact, the underground megalithic tomb of Pranu Siara dates back to the Copper Age, dominating the valley of the same name on the plateau crossed by Riu Mannu.
There are numerous nuraghi, some complex. Piscu nuraghe undoubtedly stands out for its monumentality and its state of conservation, positioned on a hill, controlling the surrounding valleys.
The tholos-shaped quadrilobed complex, built with large blocks of calcareous marl, was used from the middle Bronze Age to the full Iron Age. The surrounding village is connected to it.
In the medieval age the center of Suelli acquired a certain importance. It is the seat of the diocese of Barbaria (curatoria of Trexenta) in the Giudicato (Kingdom) of Cagliari.
To the first bishop Giorgio was dedicated the cathedral (now inside the parish church of San Pietro), whose 13th century Romanesque appearance is still visible today.
