Erula

The area of Erula, a small municipality in the province of Sassari on Anglona plateau, has been inhabited for very long time: traces of human occupation date back to the Neolithic, as evidenced by the two domus de janas of Fustilalzos and Bulgunis.

Numerous nuraghes – Ispiene, Sotgiu, Erula, Basile, Sa toa, Puligosu, Nugareddu, Giacone, and Pubatta – testify the widespread occupation of the area during the Bronze Age.

One of the best-known nuraghes is undoubtedly Ispiene nuraghe complex, known for the discovery of a bronze Nuragic vessel by the archaeologist Antonio Taramelli in 1925. The find, one of the largest of its kind and one of the most beautiful ever discovered in Sardinia, featuring a prow shaped like a deer’s protome, is on display at the National Museums of Cagliari.

Traces from the Phoenician-Punic and Roman eras have also been found in the area, in particular a milestone on the road at Tibula Karales.
