The territory of Alà dei sardi has been inhabited since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the presence of menhirs, nuraghes, giants’ tombs and a sanctuary with a holy well. The large menhir of Pedra de Lughia Rajosa is located near the rural church of Sant’Antonio. Around the town there are the tombs of the giants Alteri, Mala Carruca, Padentes, S’Ena ‘e su Barone and Sas Tumbas, as well as the remains of various nuraghes, such as the nuraghe Boddò and the nuragic village of su Pedrighinosu. The Nuragic sanctuary of Sos Nurattolos is undoubtedly the most important site in the area, with the holy well, the meeting hut and the megaron temple. In medieval times the territory of Alà became part of the Giudicato of Torres.
