The Archaeological Museum of Cagliari continues to tell and virtually accompany you along its exhibition path.
Today we will show you two twin amphorae with Punic inscription from the necropolis of Tuvixeddu in Cagliari.
The amphorae were found in 1912 by Antonio Taramelli, Superintendent of Antiquities of Sardinia, inside tomb 91, a rich burial site in the area called Predio Ibba.
An identical funerary dedication is painted in brown paint on both amphorae, which can be translated as follows: “Arim with his wife, to Hut their god”.
Taramelli describes the decoration in red paint as follows: “in horizontal bands at the belly and at the shoulders with alternating vertical and wavy lines”.
They have a narrow mouth, a faired shoulder and a pointed bottom. They can be dated between the 5th and 4th centuries BC.
